Community Playdates: About & Submissions

Welcome to the submissions thread for our monthly Community Playdates! Community Playdates will be a monthly get together of our community, where we will choose a game, movie, TV show, music album, etc. to experience, and share our thoughts with one another in a designated thread for the duration of the month.

This thread will be used to gather suggestions on media you would like to share and have us all explore together! Please note, media selected should abide by our site’s guidelines, especially around the presence of NSFW media. Furthermore, please make sure to use content warnings when making a suggestion as needed.

To make Community Playdates accessible to as many people in our community as possible, we ask that suggestions be either free or low cost (e.g. a music album on Spotify, a game offered on PS Plus/Games with Gold, a demo of a game, a Netflix show, etc.).

Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold: The Fafnir Knight

Nintendo 3DS - free demo available
A first-person turn-based dungeon crawler. Lead a party of adventurers as you work to discover the mysteries of the Yggdrasil Labyrinth, fighting the monsters in your way and creating your own map of the dungeon with the touch screen. In the game’s story mode, play as a team of adventurers from the Midgard Library escorting Princess Arianna as she prepares for a centennial ritual in the ruins of Ginnungagap, and uncover the mysteries surrounding the ritual.

Final Fantasy XIV

PlayStation 4, PC - free trial available
A third-person action MMORPG. As a fresh new adventurer in the land of Eorzea, you are chosen by the goddess Hydaelyn to become a Warrior of Light, bringing peace to the land as it recovers from an apocalyptic war.

Shield of Tomorrow

A live play of the Star Trek Adventures tabletop RPG. The crew of the Federation starship U.S.S. Sally Ride, a vessel built for deep space exploration and scientific discovery, has to figure out how to stay true to its ideals as it investigates an inexplicable never-before-seen cosmic phenomenon and navigates an impending war. All 53 episodes are available for free on YouTube, running about three hours long each. (I recommend speeding them up and letting them play while you do other things. Also, three episodes—the Lasers and Feelings one-shots and the Q&A—are skippable.)

Today is the last day in February, so I’m bumping this topic for folks to submit ideas for the March playdate. We’ll still keep the February thread open for any lingering conversations, but you can also create a Final Fantasy XIV topic!

Would anyone be interested in maybe doing a Playdate where we hang out and play Jackbox (or similar) for a few hours? I own a lot of them on various platforms and have streamed them out to friends/family a few times during the quarantine.

I wanted to throw out a few dates for this! How would this Friday (July 3rd) work? Say around 7PM Eastern? It’s totally arbitrary so willing to hear other suggestions. Saturday is a holiday (though I imagine celebrating is a little weird this year) so I wanted to steer clear of that. I think we’re all in the US/similar timezones as well so this wouldn’t be terribly early or late for anyone.
