I watched this a few weeks ago and holy cow
I had it mentally earmarked when it first released after some of the buzz and my undying love for Laurie Metcalf. I knew basically nothing about it, though, beyond her being in it. But Joe and I wanted to watch a movie and rather than rewatching The Lord of the Rings for the 800th time, we wanted to try something new.
Wow I loved it. It has a general slice of life vibe to it most of the time, and a lot of the runtime is dedicated to Lady Bird navigating friendships and (new) romantic relationships. The overarching push of the plot, though, is her being dissatisfied with her hometown and being impatient to graduate high school and move onto college… which definitely spoke to me, as I was in a similar spot at 17. Where it really shines though is Lady Bird’s relationship with her mom. I don’t want to spoil anything. It made me cry though. Please watch it.
