The browser wars were almost as impassioned as console wars ten or so years ago, when the internet was still pretty decentralized. Chrome slowly overtook market share, and it’s remained pretty stalwart in the last few years. But with Microsoft rolling out their new, Chromium-based Edge build and increasing privacy concerns surrounding companies like Google, I’m wondering what sort of journey we’re all on with our browser usage and where on that journey we all are.

I used Firefox more or less exclusively up until maybe 2013 or 2014, when I switched over to Chrome for the increased speed. I stuck with Chrome up until a few days ago, when I decided to move back over to Firefox. Chrome has gotten so resource hungry while Firefox has become much faster and more efficient. Firefox also has built in a lot of features to protect user privacy, like granular options for disabling tracking online. I’m still getting used to the adjustment and trying to break away, even in a small way, from the Google ecosystem. I still need to switch my phone browser over to Firefox.

My biggest concern is password management. Firefox was able to import all my saved passwords, and I know I really should be using a dedicated, secure password manager. But Chrome’s saved passwords also work for autofill in apps on my phone, which was super convenient.
