Welcome to our weekly what’s the vibe thread! This is a community topic where you can share what you’re reading, listening to, playing, watching, working on, etc. every week . We encourage you to interact within this thread and share your thoughts, but if you want to have an extended, long-form discussion, go ahead and make a full thread about the content in the appropriate category to keep things organized and visible.

This thread is for the week of February 9th to February 15th, 2020 . The thread will automatically close at 11:59PM on the 15th and a new one will take its place.

Had a follow-up job interview this morning and I should be hearing back in two weeks :sob: I’m feeling hopeful about this job hunt again for the first time in a while, and I hope it works since the place and people seem really nice :sob::sob::sob::sob:

(I am also going to have to figure out scheduling with my per diem research gig lol)

Cassie

Wishing you and me good vibes–just scheduled the interview for the job I really want for the week after next.

This process sucks my dude

Jon

Job hunting is the worst! (๑˃̶͈̀o˂̶͈́๑)

Anyone have hot plans for Valentine’s Day? :kissing_heart:

Joe and I don’t usually do anything. We did get invited out to dinner with one of his co-workers but we said we had plans (we don’t, just didn’t want to go). Our (five year!) anniversary is next month so it feels silly to celebrate twice in such a short period of time.

Hey, welcome! If you haven’t found it yet, our intro thread is here:

I really want to see a local production of The Last 5 Years, but I got no one to go with. Usually, I’ll go to things by myself, but it feels like something I would want to take a date too. And that’s even more bizarre since I wouldn’t call The Last 5 Years a musical you’d want to see as a date, haha.

Cassie

Not familiar with the show personally, but generally I like to encourage folks to treat Valentine’s Day (and really any holiday) spent alone like any other day. So if you’d normally go alone, go alone! I’ve had a lot of holidays where I just stayed home and ate some comfort food.

I got a callback for the play I auditioned for, but ultimately didn’t get cast. I know I did my best, though, and I went in expecting I probably wouldn’t get cast, so I’m not bothered. I also know I was in the top four for the role, and the other three guys who were called back are all people I’ve worked with before and know are great, so I look forward to going to see the show in April!

I rented Parasite and I can’t stop thinking about it. I’ve seen a couple of Bong’s other films and feel like this is the story he’s been leading up to. The character interactions were just fantastic and that third act just made me fall in love with the movie.

Yeah, I know I could probably go on my own. For just about everything I do, I do alone. It’s just something about going to this show specifically that had me wanting to go with someone. The Last 5 Years is a love story where one character begins at the start of the relationship while the other starts from their divorce and tells it backwards.

But I haven’t been feeling so good lately, so that might be another reason not to go, ha.

Cassie

OK, this is probably going to sound wildly ignorant, but go with me for a minute: I’m interested to see Parasite because of all the hype around it and because that hype is generally stemming from folks I trust to have well-informed, reliable takes on movies (even if I don’t always agree with them), like you. Thing is, I know just about nothing about it, and I kind of get the sense that I should keep it that way–that I should go in fresh with no pretense or expectation of what it might be so that I can appreciate it for what it is.

That said, I can be real sensitive to things like gore, horror, and sexual violence in films. So it’s hard for me to walk into a movie totally blind. Again, I know nothing about Parasite, which is maybe apparent from this concern. Do I have anything to worry about on that front?

ScarredNobody

Without giving much detail of the story, I would say it’s not anything excessive. It does not go Saw-level on anything. I would say it’s something you would expect from a standard drama.

EDIT: I wouldn’t even classify this movie has horror. There are suspenseful moments, but I would label this more of a thriller. It’s like how a lot of art house movies are marketed: the marketing makes it seem scary, but that’s more the atmosphere and the horror is the deeper meaning of what happens.

And, let’s just say, there are no real good guys in the movies, so they can screw others in very brutal ways that aren’t necessarily violent.

Cassie

Hmm OK. I appreciate the detail. I think I might have to look up a content advisory in that case. I’m a real baby about some of this stuff.

Jon

Yesterday was pretty cold and it just poured out of nowhere. I’m okay with that.

I mainly just slept and had chinese. Don’t really have the energy to socialize. Been binge-watching Gatsu No Lion.
